Exhibition Curation

FACE IT! Wer willst Du sein?

With "Face it! Who do you want to be?" I curated an exhibition at the Ludwig Museum Koblenz in 2019 around the film "Le visage que tu mérites/ The face that you deserve" (2018) by the internationally known director Cyril Schäublin. The film revolves around the human face. Like a mirror, it reflects one's own way of life, serves as a mask for social conventions and as a symbol of the personal responsibility that each person bears for him- and herself and his/her own life. In his unmistakable style, which is characterized by an 'unapproachable immediacy' of the scenery and precise camera angles, Cyril Schäublin creates multi-layered aspects within the four minutes of "Le visage que tu mértites", which finds equivalents in works from the collection of the Ludwig Museum Koblenz, such as Andy Warhol, Jean Dubuffet and Pablo Picasso. Le exhibition was funded by the company Le Manoir Cream Manufactury and is part of the project "Le visage que tu mérites"

"Das Gefühl in meinem Innern (The Feeling Deep Inside)"

Four bells fill the exhibition room of the Ludwig Museum Koblenz; a warm sound is heard at regular intervals. The bells reflect silver wall sculptures that look like silhouettes. On the wall is a quotation from Novalis (1772-1801):

The seat of the soul is where the inner world and outer world touch each other, where they penetrate each other.
It is at every point of penetration.
We must seek to create an inner world.
The mysterious path leads inwards.

The installation by the Korean artist SEO (*1977) "Das Gefühl in meinem Innern" (The Feeling Deep Inside) forms the focus of the exhibition at the Ludwig Museum Koblenz, which I curated there in 2015 as part of my voluntary service.

The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue of the same name with a text contribution by me.

The following video shows you the exhibition, please watch it without sound, 'cause the sound in the video is not the sound of the installation.

"Pause"

Parallel to the exhibition "Das Gefühl in meinem Innern" ("The Feeling Deep Inside") by the Korean artist SEO, which was on display at the Ludwig Museum in Koblenz in 2015 (see above), I intervened in the museum's collection with works by another Korean artist - Kejoo Park - and connected her works to the works in the collection; her work entitled "Fall" was hanging on the wall not far from the painting Peinture, 14th Century. April (1953) by Pierre Soulage, and the latest works in her series "Windows and Mirrows" that interact with the plexiglass room object "Cadre decadré" (2006) by Daniel Buren.

Since her early artistic approaches, Kejoo Park has painted in the style of the informal, expressing inner feelings without striving for composition in the pictures. In her series "Innehalten" (Pause), which she has been creating since 2013, she further develops the theme of inner expression, dealing with the "I" in its context. Nature and the big city are important points of reference for the Korean artist, architect and landscape architect.
