Living Streets - Berlin
Since 2024
In Living Streets Berlin, the city tells its stories in quiet moments that hide like fleeting notes upon the asphalt. It begins where the gaze falls downward and the city floor starts to look back. A burst balloon on the sidewalk. A scrap of sausage left behind between two steps. A patch of oil that, in the right light, suddenly does more than just shimmer. A yellow mark on Berlin’s asphalt—small and still, yet possessed of a presence that demands a second look.
At first, there is little more than color. Then, something shifts. A small figure emerges from the spot—stubborn, and with such poise that for a moment, the asphalt becomes more than just a surface. It is no different with the other finds: the crumpled balloon brings with it the bushy tail of a squirrel darting through Berlin as if it had landed here from another orbit. The scrap of sausage suddenly sits where a stick figure needs a nose, its face looking as though it has long since experienced more than it ever cared to. And somewhere between the curb, the haste, and the rush hour, scattered fries celebrate their lunch break.
Living Streets is part of my artistic practice. The series follows those moments in which the mundane falls out of its self-evidence and offers a different interpretation. Not as a grand transformation, but rather as a slight shift. A balloon turns wild. An oil slick falls silent. And a small spot begins to hold its own.
